All about the red panda! By Keira Lin Ziying☆
Have you seen this cute little animal in real life? I’m pretty sure most of you know it exists, unlike many other animals i made blogs about (ex. The Vaquita), but do you know some fun facts about it? Well don’t worry, I’ll tell you some!
Small facts on this animal:😝
The red panda is and endangered species in the IUCN red list. It is due to poaching and deforestation. Its scientific name is Ailurus fulgens. Its scientist name is as listed as a French zoologist saw this cute animal and decided to name it “Ailurus(from the Greek word ailouros, which means cat) and fulgens (which means fire-coloured or shining’’, quoting the San Diego zoo. They also feed mostly on bamboo, just like regular pandas.
How do they protect themselves in the wild?
When red pandas feel threatened, they stand on their hind legs to make them appear larger. If there is a predator close by, their large fluffy tail actually helps them! Their tail improves their agility so they can climb up higher to avoid predators.
Some fun facts:
1)The red panda is actually not related to pandas at all╳🐼
Red pandas and giant pandas actually come from different families. Red pandas are from the taxonomic family while pandas are from the bear family.
2)These animals are called fire fox🔥🦊
Known for their orangey black fur, these animals may sometimes be refferred to as Firefox! Some other nicknames include Red Cat-bear.
3)Sleep time for these furry mammals!💤
The red pandas sleep 17 hours a day, usually in trees. That’s actually much longer than average human sleep time. They often curl up to sleep on their tails so it is more comfortable, keeps them warm and blocks sunlight.
